It was a warm day when a small group lead by Pastor Butch Entrekin descended upon the Tara Mobile Home Park community, on Museum Circle in Jonesboro, Georgia. With them they brought hot dogs, drinks, recycled clothing, Christian materials and a face painter.
We have always worried that we would one day hold an event where no guests turned out. For the first 30 minutes it seemed this was going to be that event. Eventually, a child or two showed up. They would leave and come back with a couple more, then they would go get their parents. It did not take long before the event was in full swing.
The face painter was almost smothered with little girls begging for cherries or butterflies to be painted on their faces and little boys wanting snakes drawn on their arms. Whatever their desire, each child walked away from the face-painter with a proud smile on their face.
Adults and children alike ate their fill of hot dogs and chips. The recycled clothing disappeared in a heartbeat, as did the school supplies, Christian children's books and other materials. It was a great time for one and all.
Pastor Butch's group went in to make an impact and that they did. But the impact was as much on themselves as the guests. Hats off to Pastor Butch and gang!
