Party at the Potter's House!
In December a group of ladies from the Community Bible Church Out-Team visited the Potter’s House for Women in Jackson, Georgia. The Potter’s House is a home for ladies who have substance abuse problems and/or dysfunctional lives. They come to the Potter’s House battered, broken and hopeless, and at the Potter’s House they receive spiritual, physical, mental and emotional makeovers.
When the ladies from the Out-Team arrived at the Potter’s House, they were greeted with smiles and hugs! They had an opportunity to tour the home and watch a video and see the before and after pictures of the ladies at Potter’s House.
During their time together, they got to hear about how lives are changed at the Potter’s House. A wonderful lunch had been prepared for everyone and a special time of fellowship was shared among the ladies. The Out-Team delivered beautiful coats, gift bags with toiletry items for the residents of Potter’s House. The girls were thrilled with the gifts and were so appreciative. Some ladies received an extra surprise when they opened the box and their coat just happened to be their favorite color!
On that special day at Potter’s House, laughter was shared, tears were cried, friendships made, and love and hugs passed around. It was an awesome day to see just how God can work His miracles when you turn your life over to Him.

It's a bird... It's a plane... It's a... OUTHOUSE?
They claim we are crazy and they are right. We had registered for the City of McDonough, Georgia Christmas parade a couple of months earlier. But, due to our busy schedule we had not yet constructed a float. Frankly, we did not even have a firm idea of what the float was going to be about.
The paperwork said the theme was "Christmas on 34th Street". Only a couple of days earlier had we discovered that 34th Street is a street in Baltimore, Maryland famous for its Christmas lights. Whatever we did had to be lighted, which made sense since the parade was to be held at night.
It was noon the day of the parade. The Out-Team had gathered at the church for lunch to decide what we could put together in time for the parade. According to the rules the float had to be complete by 5pm and the Christmas parade was to begin at 7pm. We had to hurry, we were short on time.
We had built an outhouse out of used lumber two years earlier to enter into our church's Tunk-N-Treat celebration. The suggestion was made that we use it. But, we wondered...an outhouse? In a Christmas Parade? Entered by a church none the less? Why not? We were certain crazier things had been done. We did not know what, but something crazier had to have happened at some point in the history of Earth. The worst thing that could happen is that we would be kicked out without anyone ever seeing the float. So, the decision was made.
But how would we decorate it? We had some left over hay from another event which had been sitting outside for a while. No one would notice the freshly sprouted grass reaching up from the bales. One member of our team had noticed some discarded garland drooping out of a dumpster. Other members had extra Christmas lights and such at home. With a few other items we could have a float. It may not be a good float, but no-one could argue that it would not be a conversation piece!
We quickly hogged out on our pizza and left to gather the items we needed. One member went to get a trailer to haul the outhouse on. Another member went dumpster diving for garland and other decorations. One lady hit a dollar store, and other members went to their homes to gather whatever they had laying around.
We all met in the parade staging area. We assembled the outhouse on the trailer and quickly decorated the float and waited for the judges. Yes, there was judging. The judges stood before our magnificant creation is awe... or maybe shock. Made a few notes and moved on. Almost unimaginably we did not secure a trophy.
The parade itself was glorious! Volunteers walked along beside the float handing out Christian materials and church information to the crowd. Little children and adults alike marveled and cheered as the procession passed. We are not sure the order of the floats, but maybe there was a Christmas train, followed by a high school band. Then a north pole scene, complete with penguins and a barber's pole followed by an antique car or two. Then there was a gingerbread house with snow hanging from the eaves, and behind it... yes, you guessed it, was an outhouse decorated with garland and lights. We explained to several people that if the gingerbread house had indoor plumbing our float would have not been necessary. Alas, maybe next year.
At the end of the parade we were all too cold and tired to break everything down. Instead we towed the complete float a few miles away for overnight storage discovering in the process that our outhouse could withstand 35 mph winds. Not quite hurricane proof but a good shelter should a tropical storm ever come inland and hit Henry County during one of our events.
Now all of this may seem quite silly. After all, what church in their right mind would ever enter an outhouse in a Christmas parade? But it worked! Out of all of the floats entered ours garnered the most attention from the crowd. This was not due to its quality of workmanship or its bells and whistles. The attention was due to it being the unexpected. Because of its uniqueness it was without a doubt the most photographed float in the parade. Why is this important? Whenever someone remembers this parade, adult or child alike, and whenever they look back on the photographs they took that night they will see the message "Life down the toilet? Choose Jesus!"
While we might have walked the line on what some may consider to be good taste it is quite certain that everyone left the parade with the message imprinted in their mind that when their lives are in a mess, God will be there.

Crayons and Smiles
Due to the souring economy, for the first time the City of Stockbridge, Georgia was opening up their Holiday Festival to private companies and the Out-Team was there! We understand that in the past, the event was purely a city sponsored event with no private attractions or vendors.
This year the event was held at the Merle Manders Conference Center and Clark Community Park, a lovely setting for such a wonderful Christmas festival. Situated just north of old "downtown" Stockbridge the park and conference center plays hosts to an assortment of events year round.
The Out-Team arrived with beads, yarn, coloring pages, crayons and word find games. Spreading them out across four tables in a square, the Out-Team welcomed children of all ages. Team members hand-crafted beaded necklaces in the shape of crosses, using colored beads selected by the children and some adults). The coloring pages were almost as big of a hit as the necklaces, with some children ignoring other attractions at the festival and spending almost the entire evening coloring.
While we were not allowed to actively promote Christianity or our church, we were allowed to talk to people who visited our table, and talk we did. We did not save any souls that night but we planted a lot of seeds, seeds which we pray will feed upon the Holy Spirit and grow into fruit for Christ.

Gray Haired Teenagers Playing in the Rain
Our Community H.U.G. Cookout had been canceled because of rain. So, we decided to find another way to demonstrate the love of Christ on this soggy day. We were five grown men, four of us middle aged and graying running around in the rain like a bunch of teenagers.
The first shopper was a huge leap outside of our comfort zone. Sure, some shoppers were leery of us, and some had to much pride to be walked by a stranger to their car or to the building. But many more were receptive than we first anticipated.
As we walked we told them who we were and why we were there "to demonstrate in a small way that Christ cares about them". Those who were receptive were invited to our services.
Surprisingly, we lasted almost two hours before the manager came out and asked us to leave. As we left, one of the shoppers shouted from the entrance to the store "We appreciate y'all doing this!"
That afternoon a message was posted on the church Facebook wall thanking us for our efforts. It was from a woman out-of-state whose mother we had walked to her car that day.
We will definitely do this same project again. It was fun for all of the volunteers and all of those we walked know that Christ cares about them. Only seeds were planted, but you never know what mighty oak they may spout into.

Salvation at Walnut Grove
It was a beautiful but warm day when we visited Walnut Grove Apartments in Jonesboro, Georgia for our second time. We were there to share the the love of Christ, demonstrating to the guests that God does care.
We had a good team of people volunteer for the event. For many this was not their first HUG Cookout. They had grown to love the event, the interaction with our guests and the sharing God's love in a generous and unselfish manner.
While the event was as celebratory as any in the past, the Holy Spirit moved through the volunteers and more witnessing and prayer took place today than at most. One on one with the guests volunteers shared the tremendous impact Christ has had in their lives providing absolute proof that Christ can and does make a positive difference in the lives of believers.
By the end of the event two guests had surrendered their lives to Christ and one had rededicated their life to the Lord.
The volunteers did nothing special. They performed as they always had. What made them such a success today was one simple fact: they were there. By being there they gave the Holy Spirit the opportunity to work through them. It is that simple.
Are you robbing the Holy Spirit of the opportunity to work through you? Local Out-Team Community Bible Church 2001 Jodeco Road Stockbridge, Ga 30281 770-914-0808

Breaking Barriers with Love
It was a warm day when a small group lead by Pastor Butch Entrekin descended upon the Tara Mobile Home Park community, on Museum Circle in Jonesboro, Georgia. With them they brought hot dogs, drinks, recycled clothing, Christian materials and a face painter.
We have always worried that we would one day hold an event where no guests turned out. For the first 30 minutes it seemed this was going to be that event. Eventually, a child or two showed up. They would leave and come back with a couple more, then they would go get their parents. It did not take long before the event was in full swing.
The face painter was almost smothered with little girls begging for cherries or butterflies to be painted on their faces and little boys wanting snakes drawn on their arms. Whatever their desire, each child walked away from the face-painter with a proud smile on their face. Adults and children alike ate their fill of hot dogs and chips. The recycled clothing disappeared in a heartbeat, as did the school supplies, Christian children's books and other materials. It was a great time for one and all.
Pastor Butch's group went in to make an impact and that they did. But the impact was as much on themselves as the guests. Hats off to Pastor Butch and gang!

I Sorta Got One Foot In and One Foot Out
It was a hot day and we were holding a HUG Cookout in a local McDonough neighborhood of duplexes and quadruplexes known as Toby Springs. The volunteers had just gotten set-up and started cooking when a man we will call Clyde, approaches. A volunteer welcomes Clyde to the event and offers him food. Clyde explains he had somewhere to be and asks for a couple of bags of chips. The volunteer directs Clyde to the food. Another volunteer, being nearby, happens to hear the exchange and approaches Clyde and asks “Do you know why we are here?” Clyde replies that he does not. The volunteer explains that we were there to demonstrate God's love and that the food and other items provided were provided by God, He just used the volunteers to deliver it. Clyde thanks the volunteer and begins to head off when the volunteer asks “Clyde, are you are Christian?" “I sorta got one foot in and one foot out” replies Clyde. Hearing this the volunteer summons Pastor Jody and asks Clyde to repeat his response. Hearing Clyde's response, the Pastor Jody explains “Clyde, we don't look at things that way. We believe that you are either a Christian or you are not. If you have ever accepted Christ as your Lord, your are a Christian. Do you believe in God? Do you believe that Jesus was the son of God and died on the cross for the forgiveness of your sins and that he was resurrected three days later?” Clyde indicated he believed all of these things. “Then why do you feel you are not a Christian?” Pastor Jody asked. “I don't go to church and I don't do exactly like I should”, Clyde explained. “Things aren't quite that way”, Pastor Jody responded before asking “Do you have any children?” Clyde indicated he did. Pastor Jody asked: “If your child went out and did something really terrible tomorrow would he still be your child?” “Yes”, said Clyde. “It is the same way with God. Once you become his child you are always his child regardless of how badly you behave. God may not like the things you do and he may punish you, but you are still his child. There is nothing you can do to change that” Pastor Jody said. The volunteer added ”Going to church has nothing to do with it. Tithing has nothing to do with it. Of course, you should fellowship with other Christians and you should give to your church and help others. But, you are still a child of God if you do them or not. So, Clyde, are you a Christian?” “Yes!”, Clyde exclaimed with a big smile on his face, then went off to enjoy a hot dog. At that moment the volunteer noticed a woman guest walking by. “Are you a Christian?”, the volunteer asked. “I don't know”, the woman replied. First Post: Welcome!
Welcome to the HUG Crusade Latest News!
For the first few months the outreach projects of our group (Local Out-Team) will likely dominate these news items. But, as the number of groups and their respective projects increase our relative presence will decrease proportionately. Our goal is for our group to become only a minor presence on this site because other HUG Crusade groups are accomplishing so much!
How do you get your article posted in the Front Page news? Post your article in the Success Stories board under the Project Boards section of our forums. We will read each of these and select some of the best, most interesting or most unique to be posted in the Front Page news. It is just that simple. Be sure to include an interesting photograph or two.
In your article be sure to include links to local attractions, landmarks, governmental offices, your church or ministry and whatever else is appropriate. This is to help your posts appear in search results for your local community.
May God bless your efforts in demonstrating His love within your community. Be sure to have fun!
- Pastor Jody
